Pre-race we'd had a few weeks since the last race and so we were able to make some modifications/improvements to the car.
It was going to be a busy weekend, racing at Lydden on Saturday then the series was off to France to racing at Croix on the Sunday. As per normal I'd decided to camp overnight but my groupies decided that discretion would be the better part of valour and headed for a local hotel. It poured down overnight and after the traditional wathcing of Skivo make a right mess of getting his car off the trailer we had a quick take-away chinese huddled in the tow-car then went to bed while the heavens opened.
I'm starting to get the hang of this: 8th Place equalling my best qualifying and with a big field of 18 cars as well which was pleasing
For once I was ready for the lights to go out, I was determined not to be caught napping. Unfortunately I was so determined I lit up the rear tyres and went nowhere at all as the lights went out, I was so annoyed at myself I then forgot to change up into second only noticing as the car bumped the rev-limiter and I lost forward acceleration. End result, once again I'd lost a couple of places before the first corner. And settled in behind Nigel Goater and Paul Skivvens
Paul Skivvens followed by Nigel Goater then the altoHiway car
Paul and Nigel continued to battle infront of me, I was hoping that one or the other or both would overcook things and give me a route through but it didn't happen. Paul pulled away from Nigel leaving myself and Nigel to battle it out.
The racing was close...
And got closer.....
But however much I harrassed Nigel he played it cool and made very few mistakes, even when I tried a few hopeful lunges up the inside or outside around corners nothing was happening, top marks for Nigel for remaining cool so I had to settle for 10th place. 10th place was a real result last time out, however this time I felt I should have done better, I need to work on getting away better off the line.
Immediately after the race I grabbed my license and we got the car on the trailer and most of the BMW's, tow-cars, groupies headed for Dover docks to catch the first ferry to France, next stop Croix Le Ternois.......
